Head of Operations

Cambridge, England, United Kingdom Full-time

Head of Operations

Deliver great technology that actually matters.

Simprints builds cutting edge technology for some of the poorest and most challenging environments on earth. We are working at the exciting interface of biometrics, technology and international development: changing the way NGOs and governments deliver vital services like vaccines, health care, cash transfers, and emergency aid. We have designed and developed an identification system based off a database of 135,000 fingerprints, that will reach an estimated 4.5 million people by 2019.

We are looking for a Head of Operations who is passionate about working with our partners. You are forward-thinking, deeply collaborative, a quick learner, and thrive in a fast-paced, startup environment. You will have the experience and ambition to lead international projects of your own, and will continuously manage a team of project managers as our operations grow. You will be directly responsible for all our operations, covering millions of people across dozens of projects globally.  Your day to day might involve developing a training curriculum for community health workers in the villages of Northern Nigeria, helping a client achieve critical milestones for a cash transfers project in Haiti,  aligning directly with internal squads, or developing a strategy for scaling up our services in Bangladesh.  This is a great opportunity for someone with the right skillset to join us and take significant responsibility from day one.

Why Simprints?

  • Life is short. We believe work should be awesome, meaningful, and fun. At Simprints, we’re taking on global development’s biggest challenges, powered by an amazing culture and incredible people. Work with us, and you will grow faster, learn more, and take on greater responsibilities than at nearly any other job.
  • Spearhead the strategic approach to project management and operations alongside the COO for complex projects that impact millions of beneficiaries.
  • Work flexible hours. More efficient late at night? Better before the sun rises? That’s fine by us. We are looking for people who get the job done, not people who work between 9am and 5pm.
  • Massive, interesting challenges. You’ll travel 15-20% of your time deploying open-source, accessible tools for frontline mobile operators
  • Learn like it’s your job. Because here at Simprints, it is. Learning objectives, external mentors, and a significant dedicated education budget you can use for any courses, trips, or projects that power your personal and professional development..
  • Unlimited paid time off.
  • Fun, fast-paced Scrum culture.
  • Quarterly ‘Lego’ days where you can work on any project you want.
  • Free gym memberships and additional wellness budget.
  • Free healthy breakfast and snacks.
  • Coolest office in Cambridge (the Bradfield Centre - think ‘smaller Google-like’ office!) with additional flexibility to work from our London office too.

What are your responsibilities?

Strategic Leadership

  • Lead strategic planning and execution for the Operations team in line with the company’s annual and quarterly objectives.
  • Gather and analyze data to drive decisions,  identify opportunities, and execute plans to improve and streamline processes.
  • Build and manage strong relationships with our Impact Partners through regular feedback calls with key stakeholders, from HQ managers to end users of our technology.
  • Provide leadership and strategic insights from the field on scaling our operations worldwide.

Coordination and Oversight

  • Lead quarterly and annual reviews, as well as presenting operations progress at team-wide monthly meetings
  • Maintain the budget for the operations team, working closely with the COO to ensure resources are spent in an efficient manner.
  • Strengthen collaborations with other teams across the company, including Research, Impact Partnerships, and Product.
  • Oversee all project operations, including support on preparation of training materials for mobile operators and logistics for smooth on-the-grounds deployment.
  • Build and manage strong relationships with our clients through regular feedback calls with key stakeholders, from HQ managers to end users of our technology.
  • Actively support our Research, Impact Partnerships, and Strategic Partnerships teams on projects-related assignments, providing material for grants, sales, and marketing initiatives.

Project Management

  • Take-on and complete key complex projects from start to finish, including preparation of pre-deployment materials, logistics for smooth on-the-grounds deployment, and the deployment itself.
  • Manage deliverables of several ongoing responsibilities, such as scopes of work, project quote presentations, and client impact reports.
  • Closely monitor project statuses, investigate any significant issues reported by clients, and provide effective and timely course of action.

People Management

  • Manage, support, and guide a team of Project Managers through frequent feedback sessions and career development reviews.
  • Work closely with the Talent Operations team and other parts of the company to grow and build capacity of the Operations team, including taking part in recruitment, hiring, and management.
